Last weekend was the North Devon half marathon and marathon. What a brilliant day. Intense heat, whipping marram grass, deep yellow sand, pea fields, stiles, close-cropped headlands, dunes, stretches of tarmac, shady lanes, scrambles over rock, neat sun and the brilliant Atlantic, a lark bubbling in the sky. No mile markers, no garmin, plenty of water and support. The only race where I've been warned about snakes and ticks beforehand. Loved it. My sister did the marathon - I did the half. I don't know how she did it. Felt lucky to be there and had a wonderful swim in sea afterwards. Legs didn't ache the next day at all but I did feel strangely tired and very happy
